Hey Jackie,

The specific technologies were more in focus than the actual industries benefiting. However, there was a lot of discussions about of a redesign of email to look like and act like the web, and that would be beneficial for anyone using email newsletters. The idea is that a user should never have to leave their email inbox - but rather search for more information and interact with the brand in the newsletter. In the near future, it is also predicted that one will be able to make purchases directly through the newsletter, without leaving to an actual web shop. That's really optimizing for the customer experience.

When it comes to Inbox for Gmail and Gmail the two services will live side by side to start of, but the Gmail team (the same team are working on both Gmail and Inbox) are waiting to see what the user reaction will be when people start using Inbox. Their belief is that Inbox is the future of email, and that Gmail eventually will transform into having the same capabilities of Inbox.

The reason why you should at least look into using Inbox on your mobile is that it will work more as an assistant for everything you do - not just your normal emails. For example, if you have a flight booked, Inbox will make sure to display the email containing your e-ticket on top of your inbox the day you are to travel (the highlight function). If the flight is delayed, Inbox will also already have searched that information for you and display the new flight time directly in your inbox. That's the service Google is calling "assistance". And more assisting functions will be added as the service keeps on evolving. That, along with other functions reminders, means that you can let go of post-it notes and keep all information in the same place - even if it is not email-related. If you are out at a meeting and remember that you have to make a call when you get home, you can make a reminder and ask Inbox to "snooze" it until you get home. The reminder won't appear in your inbox before you actually reach your house, at which time Inbox will recognize your current position and send a push notification reminding you of making that call.

Inbox is a smart inbox. Gmail is just normal mail, the way it's always been.

Especially as the service starts adapting other email clients as well, I am really looking forward to using it more.

Hope that answered some of your questions!

Thanks for a very interesting post, Emelie. I'm wondering about target groups. Were there any discussions on:

*What kind of businesses and industries could benefit the most by these improvements? Internal efficiency is one thing, marketing ROI is another.

*As a Gmail user should I transfer to Inbox ? If you could elaborate on that.

Again thanx for a great post
